I believe in using art for social change. Photography provides the opportunity to communicate thoughts and feelings in a very visual way. Photography is accessible to everyone regardless of skill, culture or age.
Photography and photographic art in particular is a great subject to deliver as it is constantly changing. You never know what journey the new photographic artist is going to take you on. You learn from what they teach you through their interpretation.
As I am a practising artist it gives me credibility and respect with students and colleagues. My own practise also ensures I bring my own industry links and working industry knowledge. I demonstrate my own artistic approach and I encourage students to look at all visuals available to them and to be inspired by the industry. I encourage them to spot trends, make comment, work as a creative team as well as analyse their own work and record their own process. I teach my students well above the skills required and they rise to the challenge every time always taking the skills I deliver and creating something amazingly thoughtful.
